Lockheed p38 Lightning named "Glacier Girl " shown flying over the American Air museum at Duxford
Third Time Lucky-P38 Lightning
Duxford of course is synonomous with classic aircraft. This picture ‘Third Time Lucky’ imagines an event that could still happen in the future. The Glacier Girl is a famous aircraft - a P38 that was part of the the Lost Squadron. that found itself eventually entombed in Greenland ice since the first time it tried to cross the Atlantic as part of Operation Bolero in WW2 and was forced to land in Greenland. The now ‘Epic’ tale of recovery and restoration culminated in an attempt to complete the mission in 2007 which again failed due to engine problems it would have been the Star of the Flying Legends Show. The Pilot on that attempt was Ed Shipley.
One day it may be successful at that third attempt hence ‘Third Time Lucky’. I have imagined a scene on the Friday before the Legends Show where it finally arrives does it’s run in and break to land and complete that Mission.
